I naively thought I didn't really need this course because I wasn't "there".  It opened my eyes a bit and helped me take a good look at myself and how I was doing, my temperature, if you will.  As I read about the symptoms for Compassion Fatigue and burnout, I was identifying with some of them. I discovered I had a few in the yellow zone and it is important to address them now.-Joann

The lesson conveyed its information in a concise and understandable manner. It served as a valuable reminder to prioritize self-care and emphasized the significance of identifying the signs of compassion fatigue before it progresses to burnout. I particularly appreciate the inclusion of the Daily Practice Wheel, which I have printed and will incorporate into my planner. Thank you for providing clear and unambiguous material that left no room for confusion. -Bridgit

Within the day job, the mode of “do better be better” is so hard. I can separate the job from the ministry due to the curriculum in Her Journey Training. I leave my emotions and issue outside the door when leading a class. This also is really helpful because it allows me to work on myself so I can continue to help others. -Bernetta

I have learned much in this lesson about self-care. I am planning on instituting some of these ideas into my daily life. -Cheryl L.

Learning the difference between compassion fatigue and burnout was a good foundation. As you learn more about a topic, you are able to notice the warning signs and to work on the steps it takes to bring rest. -Lori

I particularly gained insight from the zeroing in on specifics relating to how the differences between compassion fatigue and burnout might manifest in certain behaviors and thought patterns. It can be so easy to just push through fatigue out of a perceived "strong" mindset and not even see destructive patterns emerge.  -S.L.

I can't even begin to explain how God works through this program and the women who have moved through it.  It has had the most incredible and positive effect on my life.  I have had several women move through the program and complete it, but they continue to join us for in person meetings.  I love that they feel welcome, and the comradery is miraculous. They connect with each other and with myself because for years in the abuse, they feel estranged from everyone, even doubting their own sanity. It is like a breath of fresh air to finally be in a room of others that understand what you have been through. -Karmen

I learned a lot about my abuser and his mindset.  It took a lot of the blame and guilt off of me, in that I was not in control and could not have made a diffference in his behavior.  Also, being a pretty new Christian, I learned that God does not want us to stay in bad abusive situations because we made a promise.  God wants us to have a safe and healthy life. The key words being: I didn't cause this, I couldn't not have fixed him, and God did not put me there to punish me. -Cyndi

This has been very eye-opening. The videos were extremely informative. They really helped me to get inside the mind of an HT victim and understand how they might see the world and behave. It will make me more observant of people and behaviour every time I travel. Here in the Riviera Maya, trafficking, prostitution and violence are rife. People come from all over the world to satisfy their desires. Next time I walk past the bars, spas and restaurants on Fifth Avenue, I will look at them with different eyes. -Sally

This course was powerful to me. I learned quite a bit of information that I had not known about human trafficking. -Liza

This class helped me connect some of those dots personally and is an excellent refresher as I lead my HJ group. Thank you!  -Georgia

I want to say thank you for the great training. I found myself going deeper because the way you had set it up, we could if we wanted to and had the time. All the information was good. -Yvonne

This was a good course…My eyes were opened more to Labor Trafficking now that I have completed the course.  I have worked with human trafficking victims over time but was less familiar with labor trafficking.  I will know more signs to look for now regarding that. -Tammy

Every year I think this is the best course yet and it is the same this year. The subject matter is so relevant in our culture as well as the ARMS groups. In addition to the mental health definitions, I really liked the sections that spoke to how the leader can best support people who might have these mental health issues. I appreciated being able to access and review the supporting ARMS documents with just a click. I also liked seeing, hearing and reading the information to implant it deeper into my understanding. Thank you so much for putting these amazing trainings together for us. They are well worth the continuing education fee. -KO The course was excellent! I enjoyed the curriculum and it stuck to the objectives set out in the syllabus. The tools learned in this course will be so helpful to use in group meetings. This course gave me a better awareness of mental health issues and other issues that I had no information on. -Bernetta

I liked the information of the course, it is very beneficial for the population we serve. -Vera

I appreciate the straightforward information, the lists that we can refer to and the examples of what it might look like in our groups. Rick’s videos were also really good! I also appreciate the reminder that the enemy doesn’t want us to continue with this ministry. -Sarah

This course was very informative to me.  I have heard a lot of the mental health terms before, but did not know the true definitions and traits of them.  I appreciated the  YouTube video not only addressing the disorders, but also informing us how to respond in our groups to individuals who are displaying any of them.  -Sonya

The videos on the types of disorders and how the disorders impact the affected person and how to handle them in group was very helpful. Also addressing Satanic influences and how to intervene. Overall, I enjoyed this class the content was very good.  -Sharon I found it helpful to learn about the different types of mental health issues that could display in group. I found it helpful that signs of each disorder were listed and well as written examples of what that may look like. -Tammy I really appreciate the videos with discussion about mental health conditions. I also like that we are encouraged to personalize the assignments by writing about our own experiences, I don't know of anything that can be improved. I am thankful for the support we receive from ARMS.  -Margie Thank you for this thoughtful course - just what we have needed, FOR A LONG TIME. -R.A.

I have been appreciating ALL of the material. This week I was glad for the review of the safety rules. Thanks... I was also blessed in thinking about the scriptural basis of possible divorce due to abuse. -Robin

I probably enjoyed this course more than any other I have taken.  It seemed to be the practical training for me as a group leader and something I will refer to in the future.  I think the corse was well balanced with reading and video, although the readings on divorce took a bit of time to get through. -Marilyn H.

What I especially like are the videos. Very informative and I usually listen to them a couple times. "Thanks for the incredible training I learned a lot and am sure I will be referring to my notes often in the future." -K.S.

"I was very pleased with the course material. There is a lot that I learned about stalking that I had not considered as being a form of stalking. I considered most or all of the six stages as abuse or boundary issues, but didn’t consider them as stalking...It was an eye opener about the media and subtle messages about stalking. They will better prepare me for what to look for and recognize... All-in-all it was a great learning experience and I feel it will benefit me a lot as a leader in the industry." -L.D.

"Helpful class to give a vocabulary to stalking behaviors and to know what victims of stalking can do to protect themselves...Would have been helpful six months ago when I was walking with a client through this. Thanks for the class-it was awesome!" -S.H.

"Although I have really appreciated every recertification class I have taken, this has been the most appreciated because I was ignorant of so many of the resources that were highlighted throughout the training. When I read the different articles about grey rocking, I was reminded that God led me to respond to my ex-husband with grey rocking although at the time I didn’t know grey rocking existed. It took 5 years for me to perfect grey rocking and it was worth every stumbly bumbly effort." -K.S

"This particular class was very infomative for me.  I learned alot.  I especially liked all the practical downloads and sites that provided information that i can now use to help others." -M.T.

"What a great course! Everything is helpful; the section on what victims can do with the links, Stalking Incident and Behavior Log, and all the great links are very empowering. I will keep hard copies of everything available with me, in my class, to refer to for any students who may need this information in the future. Thank you for putting this together." - S.C

Learn the myths about strangulation, the science behind it, the stages victims go through, the symptoms of strangulation and how we can help. Online, flex hours, 3-5 hours of time over a two week period. For your professional knowledge or ARMS Leader Recertification. This topic should be taught in medical fields, especially ER or urgent care, in police training, for all counselors, pastoral, marriage, and general counseling. I knew if you were strangled long enough you'd die. I didn't realize how quickly and how much damage to the brain it costs. I look forward to learning more and being wiser and aware of the possibilty in my classes. Good to know that I will know what to say and how to help any woman in my classes. -Claudia This course had a lot of information and knowledge. So glad that strangulation is now being identified as one of the most lethal forms of domestic violence. To be able to understand the difference between choking and strangulation. Strangulation is an ultimate form of power and control over a victim's next breath. It can have a devastating psychological effect or a potentially fatal outcome. This is a course to put in our toolbox and be able to identify and understand. Thank you. -Sonja T This was incredibly informative. I wasn't sure how an entire course could be written on this one criminal subject, but you have done it - and it was interesting and educational...Thank you for bringing up strangulation during intimacy - I have heard of it but wouldn't have known what to say before reading this information. I also appreciated the section regarding a victim's retelling of the incident - that they may have memory loss, appear confused, etc. Friends have also reported their own memory loss to me, and had been shamed for it. I can now offer them reassurance that this is normal. Thank you for handling such a violent and criminal subject so thoroughly. We will all benefit from this training. -Ruthanne
